First Day of School

Before I became a teacher, I was a stay-at-home mom for 10 years.  I remember, quite clearly, what the first day of school felt like.  As I took my kids down to the bus and sent them off, I remember practically running back to the house for some uninterrupted coffee time and a chance to watch Good Morning America instead of the Disney Channel.
Now that I am a teacher, I look at the first day of school a little bit differently.  I am still excited, but for a different reason than before.

The first day of school is a time for new beginnings, for both my students and myself.  While I will be teaching the same content again (for the 6th time), I know that this is the first time this group of students will be experiencing it and I want to make it amazing for them.  Each time I teach it, I get a little better at it -- that's the great thing about new beginnings.

So when my students walk through my door this morning, I'm sure they will be full of questions and uncertainty as to what lies ahead.  It will take some time for us to get to know each other, to become a family.  But it will be worth it in the end, I promise you that!

We all have a lot of learning to do this year, including me.

So here's to new beginnings on my first day of school!  I hope you have a great day!
