The way I get my kids to consider other genres is to do read-alouds with all different types of books - that usually piques their interest.Susan K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07383261948584242729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8678514486069553970.post-1143456648421888362013-11-25T08:16:25.200-06:002013-11-25T08:16:25.200-06:00What a fun week!! I've always had a challenge for my students, but never set a goal. This year, I set the goal of 25 books across 9 genres. At conferences a couple of weeks ago, several students said they were close to finishing the challenge. Wow! You know it feels good when you see success with something you're trying. Brag tags are a great way for kids to show their accomplishments - and they can be a great conversation starter about genres or specific books!<br />Marion<br /><a href="http://mentoringinthemiddle.blogspot.com/" rel="nofollow">MentoringintheMiddle</a>Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8678514486069553970.post-18779046371599758642013-11-24T13:13:27.729-06:002013-11-24T13:13:27.729-06:00I love your Reading Genre Tags! I tried to fix it so I hope it worked. Like you, I tried the 40 Book Challenge last year and it was a dismal failure...students lost their logs, or forgot entirely, I forgot to push it ...it simply lost gas after less than a month. In our district, they gave us Wednesday off this year. Wednesday couldn't come to soon. Everyone needs a break. It's hunting season, our boys sat out in 9 degree weather here in Wisconsin today. I myself warmed up with some hot chocolate.
