We have to do a school wide reading log but I will still be using this as a way to truly check in with my students. I love that you are able to see patterns right away!

Brandi
Swinging for Success
Follow me on Facebook!Brandihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05177599536207098323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8678514486069553970.post-32307602486147423222014-10-16T20:37:36.164-05:002014-10-16T20:37:36.164-05:00Great idea! All I had to do was fill in my new student names and I was ready to go. We are three weeks in and it's amazing all that I'm learning! Thanks again for bringing this back up for me! :)
Ana
Mrs. Bentin's BlackboardAnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01610507261734774694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8678514486069553970.post-13689893219915065882014-10-15T16:42:19.426-05:002014-10-15T16:42:19.426-05:00I love this alternative. Change can be challenging, but so can accountability on a reading log. I don't think I could do the status of the class every day but maybe it could work for weekly check-ins....?

-Lisa
Mrs. Spangler in the MiddleMrs. Spangler in the Middlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17137268748395471302noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8678514486069553970.post-14941461823402442492014-10-15T04:00:12.892-05:002014-10-15T04:00:12.892-05:00I read about this on a blog over the summer (I thi...I read about this on a blog over the summer (I think it was yours...?), and decided to implement it this year, along with the 40 Book Challenge. Let me just say, it is awesome! I know who is reading what, can't find a book, etc. It built a community of readers right away; I almost cried the first time I asked kids to help a particular student get a book that he wouldn't abandon the next day, and I had over 10 hands with suggestions and 4 people jump up and offer to take him back to my library. He left that day with a book in his hand and two on deck. A.maz.ing.
We also stopped using AR this year, so it was a great time to implement something new. I just have a calendar with enough weeks for the quarter for each student, and I flip through my data binder during Reader Check-in. Instant accountability and data, and I've discussed it at conferences with parents as well.
Thank you SO much for this tip!
Vicky
phillips_v@nrschools.orgMrs. Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02505695347209468816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8678514486069553970.post-18246678285807315092014-10-14T13:58:46.540-05:002014-10-14T13:58:46.540-05:00did you use big chart paper, or a regular sized sh...did you use big chart paper, or a regular sized sheet?
